Instagram is No Longer a Photo Sharing App...Allegedly.
Did you see Instagram’s “breaking news” this week? They caused a bit of fuss as they announced that they are moving away from being a photo-sharing app and are prioritizing video to compete with TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
The message that Instagram is sending is clear: it no longer wants to be thought of as the “square photo-sharing app,” as Mosseri puts it, but instead as a general entertainment app driven by algorithms and videos. (Verge)
Should you go out and hire a videographer? Not necessarily. Should you work to make your content more engaging? Always. Adding a focus on video to your strategy should not be big a big feat and should not dip into your marketing budget. It’s actually pretty simple - so simple that we outlined our easy tips below:
Animate your photography (see our recent post as an example).
Continue to stay active on Instagram + Facebook stories.
Share short, vertical videos to Instagram Reels. (This will get you the most organic reach and engagement and should be your main focus.)
Personal opinion: although it is considered video, don’t waste your time on IGTV. Users still want to fly through content.
